Nearby alerts
After you stay at a place, Nearby alerts send you one reminder to rate it, so the next traveller knows what to expect.
What they do
When the app works out that you stayed somewhere, it sends you one notification asking how it was. Tap it to open the place's page with Rate this location ready, and answer a few quick questions. You get at most one reminder a day, and nothing between eight at night and nine in the morning.
How the app knows you stayed
Nothing tracks you in the background. The app only notes where you are when you use it: when you open a place's page within about 500 metres of it, or when you use Navigate to get there. If you open that place's page on two days, no more than a day and a half apart, or between six hours and a day and a half after setting off to it, the app takes it that you stayed.
What the app notes about where you have been stays on your phone. It is kept for 30 days at most, and is deleted when you log out.
Turning them on or off
- Tap Menu, the three lines at the bottom right of the map, then App Settings.
- Under Nearby alerts, tap Turn on nearby alerts, or Allow notifications if that is the button you see.
- When your phone asks, allow location while using the app, then notifications.
To turn them off, use the switch in the same place. How it works there explains it in a few lines.
Why there may be no reminder
- You are logged out, or Nearby alerts are off. Logging out turns them off.
- Notifications are not allowed for RoamOver: App Settings shows One more step.
- Location is off, or not allowed for RoamOver.
- You did not open the place's page while you were there.
- You had a reminder for this place in the last 30 days, or for any place in the last day.
- You have already answered the questions for this place.
- The phone was restarted before the reminder was due.
- Your phone is set to a language other than English: the questions are only in English.
