Terms of service
Last updated: 14 September 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and RoamOver about your use of the RoamOver app and website. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data and forms part of these terms.
What RoamOver is
RoamOver is a map of places where people travelling in motorhomes, campervans and similar vehicles have stopped: laybys, car parks, service stations, aires, campsites, pubs, truck stops and roadside spots. The information about each place, including whether staying overnight is permitted, what it costs, what facilities it has, its access hours and whether a vehicle of a given size will fit, comes from public datasets and from other users. We check what we can, but we do not visit these places and we cannot guarantee that any of it is correct or current.
The information is not permission
Nothing in the app gives you the right to stop, park or stay anywhere. A place being listed, or marked as permitting overnight stays, means that someone reported it that way at some point. It does not mean the landowner, council or site operator agrees, that the rules have not since changed, or that it is safe. Before you stay anywhere you are responsible for checking the signs and rules at the place itself, any local byelaws or restrictions, and whether you have any permission you need. Any fine, penalty, charge or loss you incur by stopping somewhere is yours, not ours.
Measurements in the app, such as height barriers, maximum vehicle lengths and which vehicle types a place admits, are reported by people and may be wrong, out of date or rounded. Check the place yourself before committing a vehicle to it. Do not interact with the app while driving.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. What happens through your account is your responsibility until you do.
- One account per person. Don't create an account for someone else, impersonate anyone, or pick a username that suggests you are someone or something you are not.
- You need to confirm your email address before you can add locations, photos, comments or rating answers.
- You can delete your account at any time from your profile. Our privacy policy and the account deletion page explain exactly what is removed and what stays.
What you contribute
You can add locations, photos, comments, rating answers, favourites and feedback. Whatever you contribute stays yours, but by adding it you give us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to store it, show it to other users, combine it with other contributions, and use it to run and improve the app. You confirm that you have the right to give us that licence, in particular that any photo is one you took yourself.
Locations and comments are public and are shown with your username unless your profile is private, in which case they appear as anonymous. Rating answers are only ever shown combined with other people's answers. If you delete your account, your locations and comments stay in the app as anonymous contributions, because other people are relying on them; everything else is removed.
When you contribute, you must not:
- add a place you know or suspect is private land, closed, or where stopping is not allowed, without saying so;
- add a place, photo or comment that is false, misleading, or intended to send people somewhere they should not go;
- upload photos that show identifiable people, vehicle registration plates, other people's property in a way that identifies them, or anything illegal;
- post anything abusive, threatening, discriminatory, obscene or harassing, or that targets another user;
- post advertising, spam, or content promoting a business you are connected with without saying so;
- post other people's personal information;
- post content you do not have the right to share, including text or photos copied from other apps, websites or guides;
- use the app to organise or encourage anything illegal, including trespass or fly-tipping.
We review new locations and photos before they appear, and we check reported comments. We may edit, hide or remove anything you contribute, and we may decline to publish a submission, without giving a reason. Our word list blocks some language automatically. If your contribution is removed and you think that was wrong, contact us at the address at the end of these terms.
Acceptable use
Don't do anything that interferes with the app or with other people's use of it. In particular, don't:
- try to access accounts, data or parts of the service that are not yours;
- scrape, harvest or bulk-download the app's data, or access it by any means other than the app and website we provide;
- copy, republish or resell the location data, in whole or in part;
- send automated requests, probe for weaknesses, or try to get round rate limits or other protections;
- reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it;
- use the app in a way that breaks the law or these terms.
We may limit, suspend or close your account if we believe you have broken these terms, without notice where the breach is serious. We may also sign you out of all devices or remove content as part of that. If we close your account for a breach you may not open another.
Location and device features
Some features use your device's location. The map centres on you and searches near you while you use it. Nearby stopover alerts, if you turn them on, keep reading your location in the background and tell you when you have stayed at a listed place; you can turn them off at any time in App Settings. None of these features are a substitute for paying attention to where you are and what the rules there are.
The app keeps some data on your device so it works with a weak signal or no signal at all, including map images you have already looked at and stopovers you have already searched for. Data shown offline may be out of date. It is encrypted and tied to your signed-in account, and you can see and clear it in App Settings.
Map data and other services
The map is provided by MapTiler and is based on data from OpenStreetMap and its contributors, made available under the Open Database Licence. Place search and address lookup are provided by Geoapify. Account emails are sent through Brevo. Each of these has its own terms and privacy notices, and your use of the map and search features is also subject to MapTiler's and Geoapify's acceptable use policies. You may not use the app to extract map tiles or search results for use elsewhere.
Availability and changes
RoamOver is new and we are still building it. Features may change, appear or be removed, and we may take the app down for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise that the app will always be available, free of errors, or that any particular content will remain in it. We may change these terms; if we make a change that matters to you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect, and if you keep using the app after that you accept the new terms.
The app is currently free. If we introduce paid features or plans, we will tell you what they cost and what you get before you pay for anything, and separate terms may apply to them.
Our responsibility to you
We provide the app as it is. Because the information in it comes largely from other users and public datasets, we cannot check it all and we do not promise that it is accurate, complete or up to date.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit. Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from relying on information in the app, from stopping or staying anywhere the app shows, from any fine, penalty or charge you incur, from another user's conduct or content, from the app being unavailable, or from anything we could not reasonably have foreseen when you agreed to these terms. Where we are liable, our liability to you is limited to any amount you have paid us for the app in the twelve months before the event.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects the rights the law gives you that cannot be excluded by agreement.
Intellectual property
The app, its design, its name and logo, and the way its data is arranged and presented belong to us. Contributions belong to the people who made them, licensed to us as described above. Map data belongs to OpenStreetMap contributors and MapTiler. You may use the app and its content for your own personal, non-commercial use, and for nothing else without our written permission.
Reporting problems
If you find a place that is wrong, closed, unsafe, or should not be listed, use the app to propose a correction, or contact us. If a comment or photo breaks these terms, report it in the app. If you believe something in the app infringes your rights, tell us at the address below and we will look into it.
The legal bits
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom or in the European Union, you keep the protection of any mandatory rules of your home law and may bring a claim in your own courts.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about the app. Not enforcing something in these terms once does not mean we cannot enforce it later.
